Chaminade Prep (MO) Boys Team is about more than Basketball it’s a Brotherhood

It’s Junior guard Matteus Case’s first year at Chaminade Prep but yet he’s already brought into what head coach frank Bennett formulating for the team. “He making it a brotherhood with us, just keep going winning games…” And winning is what this team is doing. The school already has one recent star in NBA Jason Tatum, and sure to have many more on the way. Friday the team traveled to Akron Oh to Play in the 1st Annual Maranist Classic at St Vincent St Mary High School. The Red Devils captured a huge win over the National powerhouse and three-time defending Pennsylvania state Champs, Kennedy Catholic. The Red Devils were in for a battle with 6’9 250 lb F/C Oscar Tshiebwe a West Virginia Commit that’s solid as they come. Case says that it was their plan to stop him, but the team failed early on going down by as much as 8 pts in the 1st quarter. “You just gotta stick to the game plan, try and mix some defenses up, and really make it an ugly game,” said Head Coach Frank Bennett. Ugly is exactly what they did, stifling Tshiebwe all night long by constantly double teaming him, not allowing him to hold the ball long, and forcing him to pass early. He did finish with 17 pts, but the team never really find its rhythm the way that it would have liked to, and Chaminade was able to get the win 52-49, with Case leading the way with 22 pts. Matteus who is being scouted heavily by Canisius, and Drake universities, spoke about the win. “I saw a slow start…but we just had to stick to the game plan…coach just said stay calm, play tough” Bennett also spoke about what it was like to play at the alma mater of Lebron James “If you don’t like Lebron James then something’s wrong with you. He’s not only an unbelievable basketball player but, he’s an ambassador for the game…Just to come and here and see how much he’s given back, and how much his imprint is on the school that’s a testament to him…” With the things going on at Chaminade we might be writing testament’s about them one day. Stay tuned.
