St. Ignatius produced two scores on a fumble and an interception return that helped it build a 24-10 lead on the knights. Senior defensive lineman Peter Chalhoub returned a fumble near the 15-yard line in the second quarter, and junior linebacker Max Palinski’s interception return in the third capped the Wildcats’ defensive plays. With two seconds left on the clock Saturday night at Byers Field, Archbishop Hoban’s Charlie Durkin lined up for a kick he made before that night.
A few feet away, St. Ignatius senior Griffin Taliak lined up in a spot where he had made blocks before in practice.
Taliak raced around the edge to leap in front of Durkin’s 45-yard field goal attempt, sending the football into the hands of cornerback Franklin Pike in a run to the end zone that gave St. Ignatius a 33-27 win.
