Archbishop Hoban got a decisive win at Dowed Field on Thursday night in a 38-0 win over Columbus Bishop Sycamore.
The school itself is an online-only charter school, and is not affiliated with the OHSAA, so the game doesn’t count as a win on Hoban’s record.
Hoban, rebuilding from last years state championship run had to replace numerous starters and key contributors from last year. All the while facing a team they had never seen before, and it showed early. 5-foot-10 Lamar Sperling carried the ball 24 times for 135 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Hoban offensive attack.
Jayvian Crable replacing four-year starter Shane Hamm completed seven of 11 passes for 107 yards, which included a 31-yard touchdown pass to Shawn Parnell for Hoban’s first score.
“Jay did a great job, he really did,” Hoban coach Tim Tyrrell said. “He stepped up and made a great throw to Shawn for the touchdown.”
